Those that often frequent King Street are likely to be intrigued by the goings on around Bristol Old Vic Theatre. Well on Monday 24th September (tomorrow if you are reading this straight away) all will be revealed as the new 1766 Bar & Kitchen opens in the newly redeveloped foyer of the historic theatre – which will also be revealed for the first time!
The restaurant has been designed as warm and welcoming all-day destination and reflect the buzz and creativity of the theatrical space. Female Head Chef, Coco Barone, has created an all-day menu focused on high quality, local and season produce. Open 8am until late serving breakfast, lunch, dinner and everything in between – including cocktails, craft ales and locally roasted coffee.
I am particularly excited about trying their breakfasts, with dishes like ‘Hail Halloumi’ on the menu, comprising halloumi fries, smashed avocado, rose petal & hazelnut dukkha and roasted cherry tomatoes on toasted turmeric and chilli bread. Sounds YUM!

Coco Barone says: “In Italy, mealtimes are about bringing people together around the table to share both great food and conversation. This is what 1766 will be all about. I believe in allowing the main ingredient in a dish to take the limelight, but I do enjoy adding playful creative twists to dishes and I hope the people of Bristol and beyond enjoy these.”

Coco Barrone is such an excellent name. She’d be an exciting character in a book.
