I have regular realisations that I may be a little too obsessed with food. A recent example? When speaking to a friend about her upcoming wedding plans, my life update was “I went for a really good roast at The Cauldron Restaurant last Sunday!” Let’s not think too much about my life choices…
Anyway, I did have a fantastic roast at the Cauldron in St. Werburghs and do feel like everyone should know about it. So here it is…

The Cauldron stands out from the crowd in the fact that it cooks on fire! Their kitchen uses multiple fire pits, grills, wood fired oven and two huge cast iron cauldrons. If you want a little insight on their cooking methods and get some epic tips for the BBQ, check out their YouTube channel: Food on Fire.
For the meat eaters, I would consequently massively recommend the Mixed Roast, which on my visit included:
- Oak Wood Smoke Roast Sirloin of Angus Beef
- Rolled Saddle of Texel Cross Lamb
- Crackled Pork Griskin Loin
I am actually drooling just writing about it. The tenderness of the meat and the smoky flavours were outstanding, particularly THAT BEEF!!!

Nothing is an after-thought on this plate. The veg is beautifully flavoured, including scrummy Cumin Roast Carrots and Parsnips and the gravy is a labour of love, taking four days to perfect!

Non-meat eaters, do not panic. There are also fab vegetarian and vegan options on the menu. The Mixed Bean, Apricot and Cranberry Wellington sounded particularly tempting.
We finished of the meal with some gorgeous vegan chocolate truffles and a sip of coffee liqueur. Perfection.

Make sure you book. Other people know how good it is. Details on The Caudron website.
Can’t wait to go back and try all the other menus. I can only imagine how good their steak is!
