Southside Bar
After a stressful and grizzly afternoon tackling a busy town on the weekend (not quite sure what I was thinking there) I popped into the lovely Southside Bar on my way home. Having previously only ventured there for drinks – the outside decking is the perfect spot to catch the last of the sun on Wells Road (when it comes back!) with a cocktail in hand – I was tempted in by a tweet about the launch of new small plates.

The chef, Greg (previously of The Runcible Spoon and The Rummer), has recently returned and is updating the menu. Their renowned burgers are staying – including the Southside special made with chorizo and steak mince. YUM! Alternatively you can try a variety of scrummy small plates; my favourite way to eat.
I tried:
- Calamari – perfectly thin and crispy rings with a lush lemon and garlic mayo that I could easily just eat with a spoon.
- Patatas bravas – crispy potatoes with a sweet pepper sauce
- Surprise dish of carrot escabeshe with lentils and feta – gorgeously fresh with a hint of aniseed.

The cocktails specials board was staring at me, so I could not resist trying the Earl Grey Hound. A refreshing mix of earl grey infused vodka (made themselves), grapefruit juice and soda.

I also got to chat to Greg about food and staffies – my favourite thing to do!

This all looks fantastic! Good food choices too
